Key information

Service of the national debt; interest paid on medium/long and short term debt, national savings schemes, other movements, sinking fund payments, fees and expenses, expenses of the National Treasury Management Agency (NTMA) and interest received on deposits with the Central Bank and other banks. The national debt statement; medium/long term debt, Irish government bonds listed on the Irish stock exchange, other Irish government public bond issues, European Investment Bank loans, medium term notes, and miscellaneous debt; short term debt, commercial paper and borrowings from funds under the control of the Minister for Finance; national savings schemes, savings certificates, savings bonds, national instalment savings, savings stamps and prize bonds. Also included are the national debt cash flow statement, movement in exchequer balances, borrowing receipts and payments and a statement of movement in national debt.

Scope

The total amounts of principal borrowed by the government not repaid at the end of the year, less liquid assets available for redemption of those liabilities at the same date. Guarantees for borrowings by State and other agencies are not included.
