Key information

Number of farms by farm size, farm type, economic size, area of crops, livestock numbers, livestock unit size, characteristics of farm holder (gender, age, annual work units, significance of farmwork), characteristic of family and regular non-family workers (gender, age, annual work units). There are many cross-classifications, as well as details on land rented in, farms with woodland, gainful non-agricultural activity and level of training of farm managers. Most tables are classified by province and county.

The CSO Census of Agriculture, and administrative data from the Department of Agriculture Food and the Marine (DAFM).


All farms where the agricultural area used for farming (AAU) was at least 1 hectare. Farms with less than 1 hectare were included if they were engaged in intensive production (e.g. of pigs or poultry).
